Dr. Roslyn Mendelson

Biography

Roslyn Mendelson is a Registered Psychologist with more than 25 years of experience. In private practice since 1990, Dr. Mendelson has a warm, common sense approach that enables children and parents to feel comfortable and empowered.

A graduate of McGill University and Queen's University, where she earned a Ph.D. in clinical and child psychology, Dr. Mendelson has worked as a lecturer in developmental psychology and an instructor in special education at Queen's University.

Dr. Mendelson has published numerous academic papers and delivered addresses and workshops on topics including the effects of violence on children, the treatment of sexually abused children, and parenting skills. She has served in a variety of settings, including a children's mental health clinic, schools, a university counselling service, and private practice. She has been called as an Expert Witness to the Court of Queen's Bench and the Provincial Court, Family and Youth Divisions in matters pertaining to sexual abuse, child custody and child guardianship.

While Dr. Mendelson maintains a broad base of clients, including adults, couples and families, she specializes in the treatment of preschoolers, school-aged children and adolescents. She collaborates with parents and teachers to understand children's needs and to help build a caring environment that will enhance their growth and development.

Dr. Mendelson combines play therapy and a cognitive behavioural approach to help children and family members develop new skills to cope with difficulties including sadness, fears and worries, school problems, behavioural problems, and stress. She provides constructive guidance to parents to help them support their children more effectively.

In addition to her professional credentials and expertise in a wide range of areas, Dr. Mendelson also draws on her experience as the mother of two children. She has always loved working with children and feels privileged to devote her professional, personal and volunteer time to improving the lives of children.
